ABDM & INTEROPERABILITY

Connect healthcare workflows to India’s digital health ecosystem.

Bring ABHA-enabled patient identity, connected health records and consent-based information exchange into the same workflows your teams already use for registration, care delivery and patient management.

AIMCare is designed around ABDM interoperability so participation in India’s digital health ecosystem does not have to operate as a separate layer outside your HIMS.

ABHA • FHIR-based exchange • HIP/HIU workflows • APIs • Connected health records

CONNECTED DIGITAL HEALTH

Interoperability works better when it starts inside the care journey.

ABDM is designed around an interoperable national digital health ecosystem that connects citizens, healthcare facilities, professionals and health information through common digital infrastructure. ABHA provides individuals with a unique digital health identity, while HFR and HPR provide registries for verified healthcare facilities and professionals.

For healthcare organisations, the challenge is not simply connecting to another API.

It is making digital identity, health-record linking, consent and information exchange work naturally inside everyday hospital and clinic processes.

AIMCare brings that interoperability closer to where care actually happens.

Patient Registration → ABHA → Consultation → Health Record → Consent → Record Exchange → Continuing Care

From identity to exchange

From patient identity to interoperable health information.

1

Bring ABHA into registration

Support ABHA creation, capture or verification as part of patient registration rather than handling digital health identity through a disconnected process.

Outcome: Connect the organisation’s patient identity workflow with the patient’s wider digital health identity.

2

Connect records to the patient

Associate eligible health records generated during care with the patient's ABHA-linked identity so they can participate in the wider ABDM record ecosystem where enabled.

Outcome: Move from isolated facility records toward a more connected longitudinal health history.

3

Enable consent-driven health information sharing

AIMCare is designed to support Health Information Provider (HIP) and Health Information User (HIU) workflows, enabling health information to be shared or requested according to the patient's consent. ABDM's HIE-CM architecture supports consent management, record linking and sharing of personal health records.

Outcome: Give authorised care teams access to relevant information without making unrestricted data sharing the default.

4

Structure information for interoperability

ABDM's health-data interchange specifications use HL7 FHIR R4 as the foundation for standardised health information exchange. AIMCare is designed around FHIR-based interoperability for applicable ABDM workflows.

Outcome: Make clinical information easier for authorised systems to interpret and exchange.

5

Connect to the wider digital health ecosystem

Build interoperability beyond a single facility by connecting AIMCare workflows with relevant national digital-health services, registries and external healthcare systems as supported by the deployment.

Outcome: A HIMS that can participate in a broader healthcare ecosystem instead of becoming another closed data silo.

PATIENT-CONTROLLED EXCHANGE

Connected records should not mean uncontrolled records.

ABDM is built around consent-based health information exchange. Its consent-management framework allows individuals to manage how health records are linked and shared with participating healthcare entities.

AIMCare is designed to bring these consent-driven workflows into the care process so interoperability can support clinical continuity without separating consent management from the patient journey.

Request

An authorised healthcare workflow requests relevant health information.

Consent

The patient reviews and provides applicable consent through the ABDM ecosystem.

Exchange

The permitted health information can be exchanged between participating HIP and HIU systems.

Relevant information. Authorised access. Patient-controlled exchange.

INTEROPERABILITY FOUNDATION

Connect AIMCare without locking healthcare data inside AIMCare.

AIMCare connects internal clinical, operational and financial workflows while providing an interoperability layer for systems outside the organisation. Its current product architecture includes ABDM/FHIR interoperability, APIs and integration pathways across diagnostics, imaging, insurance, communication, finance and enterprise applications.

Healthcare interoperability

ABDM / FHIR

Structured exchange of applicable health information within India's digital health ecosystem.

APIs

Connect AIMCare workflows and data with supported external healthcare and enterprise applications.

Clinical coding & terminology

Use relevant structured clinical coding and terminology standards where supported.

Integration ecosystem

Diagnostics & Imaging

Connect laboratory, radiology, PACS and related diagnostic environments where configured.

Insurance & Claims

Exchange information across applicable payer, TPA and health-claims workflows.

Patient Communication

Connect digital patient journeys across supported SMS, email, WhatsApp and other communication channels.

Finance & Enterprise Systems

Integrate relevant payment, accounting and third-party enterprise applications through supported interfaces.

One care workflow

Interoperability should reduce steps, not create more of them.

  1. Register Create or identify the patient record and bring ABHA capture or verification into registration where enabled.
  2. Consult Doctors continue working inside the AIMCare clinical workflow for history, documentation, diagnosis, prescriptions and orders.
  3. Generate Relevant prescriptions, diagnostic reports, discharge summaries or other supported health information are generated as part of care.
  4. Structure Applicable health information can be prepared using ABDM-compatible, FHIR-based structures.
  5. Link & Exchange Eligible records can be linked and exchanged through applicable ABDM workflows according to patient consent.
  6. Continue Care Authorised information can become available within the wider patient care journey instead of remaining isolated at one facility.

One care workflow. Connected to a wider health ecosystem.

ABDM ECOSYSTEM

More than an ABHA integration.

ABDM includes several building blocks that together create India's digital health ecosystem.

ABHA

A unique 14-digit health account number that helps connect an individual to the digital health ecosystem and supports linked personal health records.

Health Facility Registry

HFR provides a national registry of verified hospitals, clinics, laboratories, diagnostic centres, pharmacies and other healthcare facilities.

Healthcare Professionals Registry

HPR provides a verified registry for participating healthcare professionals across public and private healthcare systems.

Health Information Exchange & Consent

ABDM's HIE-CM framework enables consent management, record linking and controlled health-information exchange.

Scan & Share

ABDM also provides QR-based Scan & Share workflows that can simplify OPD registration by allowing patients to share their ABHA profile with participating facilities.

OPEN BY DESIGN

ABDM is one part of a broader interoperability architecture.

AIMCare is a global healthcare platform. Its interoperability architecture is designed to connect patient, clinical, operational and financial workflows with the wider systems used across a healthcare organisation.

For organisations in India, that includes participation in the ABDM ecosystem.

For the wider platform, the same approach supports connections across:

Connected inside the organisation. Integrable outside it.

Who it helps

What interoperability means for each stakeholder

For care teams

More context when it matters

Bring authorised health information closer to the clinical workflow so clinicians spend less time reconstructing a patient's history across disconnected records.

For patients

Records that can move with care

Support a digital health journey where identity, records and consent are not tied entirely to one healthcare facility.

For IT & leadership

A standards-based integration foundation

Use APIs and health-data standards to connect AIMCare with the organisation's broader technology environment instead of depending only on proprietary point-to-point integrations.
